Short, but sweet, session
D
ESPITE ‘Dad’s Taxi’ duties
ruling out fi shing for me
last weekend, I managed
a quick after-work Friday
evening session ahead of a
450-mile round trip to collect
my daughter and all her
belongings from Lancaster
University.
I had only three-quarters
of a pint of casters in my bait
fridge... a meagre bait stash
that I eked out for an hour and
20 minutes on a local stretch
of the lower River Cam.
In perfect conditions, with
overcast skies, steady fl ow and
a strong upstream breeze, I
had a bite a cast on my all-time
favourite tactic – waggler – to
land 37 fi sh, topped by several
quality rudd to 1 lb 13 oz,
before the bait fi nally ran out.
Eight different species came
my way – rudd, roach, silver
bream, bronze bream, dace,
bleak and roach/bream and
rudd/bream hybrids.
Another bonus was the fact
that the wind kept the dreaded
mozzies away.
Truly a short, but sweet,
evening session.
Simon Smith with
part of a 29 lb 9 oz
match catch from the
Thurne’s Martham
Ronds section.
Tom with a 1 lb 13 oz rudd,
the biggest fi sh of a very
enjoyable evening session
on the River Cam.
