Whitemoor Lakes
Where? Colehill Lane, Colehill,
Kenn
which appeals to more
traditional coarse anglers.
I nipped up there the other
day and caught up with local
club secretary Ivan Currie
on one of the Kenn’s more
reluctant days, but he managed
one of the venues typically
good-sized ‘slabs’ while I was
there.
The week before, the stretch
had produced a 100 lb-plus bag
of these fish, but it is often the
case that after the early season
shoal-up they split into smaller
groups and can be caught from
a number of swims in lesser
numbers.
The perch go to several
pounds, and the tench to
6 lb-plus, while the rudd are
also 1-2 lb fish. The roach can
top 2 lb, so it really is a quality
coarse fishery.
If you like peaceful coarse
fishing in a non-commercial
environment, the Kenn is
right up there, because the
fish it delivers are lovely
examples of the species.
And day tickets are a very
reasonable £5, or for even
better value you could join
Clevedon DFAC for just £20
a year.

What’s being caught? The
Main Lake is fishing well for
carp, with a good number of
decent doubles, singles and a
few big tench. Plenty of quality
rudd and skimmers, too. Canal
Lake match bags around
50-100 lb of carp, backed by
20 lb bags of silver fish.
Tactics? The carp come to pole
Hot sport! Ivan Currie with

by a matching glug and

“a crusty coating”.

and paste, pellets or a flatbed
feeder and pellets. Float fished
casters, corn or pellets down
the middle is great for the tench
and silver fish. The larger carp
on Main come to boilies over
PVA bags of pellets. Floating
crust taking fish off the top in
the evenings. On Canal, meat in
the margins and on the top five
line scoring. Maggots or worms
tight across sort out the better
stamp carp.
