COLLECTOR’S FOCUS
WINGED CREATURES: ART OF THE BIRD

“The one aspect of working in bronze that
I truly enjoy is the ability for me to bring
movement to my subjects,” Brent Cooke of
CastArt Studio says about his highly-detailed
wildlife sculptures. He adds, “Whether it is
crows fighting over a lunch at a park bench or
a diving falcon, the metal gives each piece a
story and a sense of flow.”
For Raymond Gibby of Gibby Bronze,
birds inspire “a great desire for freedom.” He
elaborates, “We all wish that we could both
figuratively and literally soar as high as the
winged creatures. They are a masterpiece in
functional design and uplifting beauty. One

reason that I create wildlife sculpture is that
I want collectors to be able to connect with
their love of God’s creatures. In acquiring an
art piece in this genre, I would simply suggest
that the collector seek work that is as equally
inspirational as the birds they love.”
“I’ve always been fascinated by nature’s life
forms—their intricacies and how every niche
is filled with some amazing creature or plant
form, and how they are all always magically
interconnected,” says wildlife, botanical and
abstract artist Lynn Waltke. “Nothing is as
exciting for me as being in my studio watching
the eye of a bird evolve under my brush, or

blending the many hues of bobcat fur into
mottled perfection. This I love.”
The nature that surrounds us inspires the
colored pencil drawings of Tracey Chaykin. “My
love of nature propels my desire to preserve it for
generations to come,” Chaykin says. “I actively
participate in groups like the BirdWhisperer
Project and Artists & Biologists Unite for Nature
(ABUN) so that my art, in addition to distributing
with others who share my affinity for nature, can
be used for the promotion of knowledge and
conservation efforts. In the words of John Ruskin,
‘When love and skill work together, expect a
masterpiece.’”
