The Hockaday Museum of Art’s mission is
to enrich the cultural life of the community
and region and preserve the artistic legacy
of Montana and Glacier National Park.
The museum maintains a permanent
collection and offers rotating exhibits by
nationally renowned and emerging artists, in
addition to a permanent exhibit of Glacier
National Park art and culture. A Discovery
Gallery provides hands-on activities for
children that changes along with the rotating
exhibits. Contemporary artists of recent art
acquisitions include Charles Fritz, Doug
Swinton, Linda Wilder and Laurie Kersey.
Historical artists of recent art acquisitions
include Glacier National Park artists Lucille
Van Slyck (1898-1932) and Isabel Crawford
(1886-1973).
The Hockaday Museum of Art continues
to honor the artistic legacy of Glacier during
the 2019 A Timeless Legacy. The Premier
Art Event & Fundraising Sale is held August
10, while the exhibition will be on view
August 13 to September 21. This year’s event
features 23 critically acclaimed women
artists from the U.S. and Western Canada
who have created works inspired by Glacier
National Park and those who came before


to paint and explore our majestic park.
Featured plein air and studio art will include
landscapes, wildlife, Native American
and Western culture, and historic and
contemporary park genre. Media includes

oil, acrylic, charcoal, pencil and ceramic. In
addition, Hear the Whistle Blow! Art of the
Railway, an exhibition showcasing railroad
fine art paintings, drawing and etchings, will
be held from September 27 to December
7 with an opening reception September 26
from 5 to 7 p.m.

is Robert Krogle, a nationally recognized

contemporary themes. His piece Sunset on
the Bitterroot is available online through the
gallery.
