WHAT ARE YOU MOST EXCITED
TO BUY AT THE FARMERS’ MARKET
THIS SEASON AND WHY?
Every year I look forward to getting my
hands on fi gs. The fi gs here in the South
are incredibly juicy and sweet when they’re
plucked at the perfect time. I scrounge up
as many as I can and preserve those fl avors
all year long in homemade jams.

WHAT IS YOUR FARMERS’ MARKET
SHOPPING STYLE?
Although I never go to the grocery store
without a list, I usually opt for a more
relaxed approach at local markets. I like
the challenge of using whatever bounty I
fi nd in my basket, and I always look forward
to recommendations from the farmers
themselves.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST EXCITED
TO BUY AT THE FARMERS’ MARKET
THIS SEASON AND WHY?
Anything and everything purple! I love
purple potatoes and sweet potatoes, as
well as dragon carrots, radishes, and all the
stunningly diff erent types of chicories, baby
and Chioggia beets, and as always, avocados
all year long.

WHAT IS YOUR FARMERS’ MARKET
SHOPPING STYLE?
It really depends on the purpose of the visit!
Sometimes I’m going because I want to
meander the aisles and get inspiration for
my next round of menus, and sometimes
I’m going on a specifi c mission the same
day I’m cooking for an event, so it’s a quick
drive-by straight to my vendors with a list.

Chef Daniela Gerson brings authentic,
local fl avors to life on a plate. She supports
local growers and producers by sourcing
their high-quality organic ingredients. Her
clientele extends from the island of Kauai to

WHAT ARE YOU MOST EXCITED
TO BUY AT THE FARMERS’ MARKET
THIS SEASON AND WHY?
The local produce season is short and sweet
where I live in Atlantic Canada, so I take full
advantage of summertime deliciousness. I
love heirloom tomatoes (heaven on earth),
strawberries, sweet corn, spicy greens, and
all the fresh herbs. Nature’s candy!

WHAT IS YOUR FARMERS’ MARKET
SHOPPING STYLE?
I’m most defi nitely a list person. For me, it’s
the best way to ensure I’m ready to go for
the week. That said, I always fi nd new and
exciting produce when I visit the market.
I’ve built a great relationship with some rock
star farmers over the past few years who
ensure that I have top quality produce.
