first man to set foot on the moon
in July 1969, people all over the
world joined together to celebrate
mankind’s greatest achievement.
It was a moment that inspired a
generation and changed the face of
human history, but what was it like
for the half a billion TV viewers who
followed every step of the eight-day
mission from their living rooms?
This week and next, C4 recreates
the excitement, tension and sheer
wonder of those eight days with a
pair of fascinating documentaries,
short news updates and online
content designed to transport
viewers back 50 years in time.
‘We want to get today’s viewers
into a similar head space as those in

the mission with the
help of astronaut
Michael Collins.
