Beasts:

The Crimes of

Grindelwald

AUGUSTSKY CINEMA
Eddie Redmayne’s bashful hero
Newt Scamander is back for a
sequel to 2016’s blockbuster hit
Fantastic Beasts and Where to
Find Them, JK Rowling’s giddily
enjoyable big-screen prequel
to her Harry Potter tales. The
second in a projected five-film
series of fantasy adventures,
The Crimes of Grindelwald
finds endearingly enthusiastic
‘magizoologist’ Newt reluctantly
drawn into the brewing
conflict between good and
evil after dark wizard Gellert
Grindelwald (Johnny Depp)
escapes from custody.
Also drawn into the fray is
a young Albus Dumbledore,
played by Jude Law, as well as
a number of familiar figures
from the first film, including
Katherine Waterston’s auror
Tina Goldstein and her bubbly
mind-reading sister Queenie
(singer Alison Sudol), plus Dan
Fogler’s bumbling non-magical
Jacob. There is, of course, an
abundance of wonderfully
curious magical beasts, plus
an abiding message of open-
mindedness and tolerance.
As Newt puts it, ‘There are
no strange creatures, only
blinkered people.’
