TV&Satellite Week 9

Gary tells Imran he’s to

blame for Rana’s death...

›› Four months after his sabotage
caused the factory roof to collapse,
Gary has a crisis of conscience
and confesses to Imran that he
was responsible for his sister
Rana’s death.
His moment of
truth comes after
a week in which
the pressure
mounts and the
net closes in.
First off, Nick

  • considered by
    many a prime
    suspect for the
    tragedy – spots
    himself in one of Beth’s
    photographs taken on the
    morning of the disaster, showing
he was nowhere near the building.
Suddenly, it seems he has an alibi.
    Meanwhile, Sarah becomes
suspicious of her ex when Carla
tells her she had a ‘dream’ in

hospital in which Gary visited her
and looked through her handbag.
Her suspicions are piqued when
she then questions Gary about the
voicemail he left on her phone, and
she reports him to the police, who
haul him in for questioning.
News spreads, and
when Gary returns to
the cobbles, he faces
the wrath of Peter.
Burdened with
guilt, he calls into
the solicitors’ office
and tells Imran that it
was his fault Rana died.
Does prison now beckon?

››PLUS Ali kisses Maria, Eileen
learns some home truths about
Jan, Roy is forced to move in with
Tyrone, Beth sells her Underworld
shares, and Gemma worries that
No.5 is too small for her and
Chesney’s quads.

NEW FACES
Among the new characters in
this series are Cecily Hanson (Lily
Dodsworth-Evans), the daughter
of a mahogany trader, the rebellious
Tess Tregidden (Sofia Oxenham),
who’s employed at Nampara, and
the impetuous Ned Despard
(Vincent Regan), who needs Ross’
help getting out of prison. ‘Ned
saved Ross’ life on the battlefields,’
reveals Turner. ‘He’s a fearless
soldier with a sense of social justice.’

STRONG EMOTIONS
There’s no shortage of
drama for the show’s other main
characters, including George
Warleggan (Jack Farthing), who
struggles to deal with Elizabeth’s
death. ‘He can’t compartmentalise
it and it hits him,’ reveals

Farthing. ‘He goes to some very
dark places.’ Meanwhile, Drake and
Morwenna (Harry Richardson and
Ellise Chappell) have reunited after
the murder of Morwenna’s vile
husband Osborne Whitworth. ‘It’s
not an easy journey for them,’ says
Chappell. ‘They love each other,
but it’s not that simple. Morwenna
must process what’s happened.’

FOND FAREWELL
After four years as Poldark,
Turner says there will be a fitting
send-off for the charismatic
Cornishman. ‘Because it was
the last series, there were lots of
poignant moments – the last time
I got up on a horse, the last time
I put on the tricorn hat,’ he says.
‘But now it’s just great to have
completed it. And it feels nice
not to have to get up at 5am every
morning!’
