New Idea – July 29, 2019

A

fter shedding an
incredible 55kg
and dropping five
dress sizes, Kate
Jones, from Long
Jetty, NSW, should’ve finally
been happy with her new body.
In 2014, Kate had reached her
lowest weight of 65kg and was
a size 10. The now 28-year-old
teacher had undergone massive
weight loss over 18 months
and everyone thought she
seemed happier than ever.
But deep inside, Kate was
battling demons that had reared
their ugly head as a result of
her dramatic lifestyle change.
“When I was losing weight,
my mind was completely
consumed by fitness and food,”
Kate reveals to New Idea.
“At the time, I didn’t see a
problem with how obsessed
I was because I was constantly
receiving compliments.”

“It wasn’t until I distanced
myself from dieting that I saw
how unhealthy my mentality
really was. When I was trying to
maintain the weight I had lost, I
put so much pressure on myself.”
This took a huge toll on
her mental health and Kate
felt drained all the time.
Kate explains that while she
had always been a ‘bigger girl’
she first began piling on weight
12 years ago, after meeting her
partner Nick, 31.
She found herself eating
more junk food than usual,
waking up to a chocolate bar
and energy drink – while also
snacking on lollies and chips
throughout the day.
Evening time would involve
two unhealthy dinners, such
as a greasy McDonald’s
takeaway followed by a big
home-cooked meal.

Kate became
obsessed with
maintaining
her skinny
frame, but she
is now a
size 16 and the
happiest she’s
ever been.
