MERE MALE
After 30 years of marriage,
my daughter asked her
husband if he felt it would
be a good idea for them to
renew their wedding vows.
“Why? When do they
expire?” queried her
MM hubby.

WEIGHT Y ISSUES
It was lovely to read ‘Twice The Age, Half The
Size!’ (NI, July 1). I found Frances
Caratozzolo’s story very encouraging. She
surely looks great, achieving her ideal weight
by clearing her pantry, throwing out junk food
and starting a balanced diet. Those of us who
want to shed those unwanted pounds should
follow what Frances did. If we are determined
to lose weight we can do it. If we eat sensibly,
exercise regularly, relax as much as possible
and stay positive, then we can achieve our
goals. No matter how hard it is at first, the
reward of reaching the weight you aim for
will be worth the effort. Congratulations to
Frances for becoming a fitness instructor after
losing almost 80kg. Wow, she looks stunning.
Thank you New Idea and to Frances for such
an inspiring article – a positive thing to read.

Whether it be relationship, work, family
or just personal troubles, Nene King can
tackle any question given to her. Send your
life questions to [email protected].

My sister said she would help
with a bill, but she didn’t stay
true to her word. If I try to contact
my sister about this issue, she
chooses to ignore me. Apart from
the financial issue, my sister and I
don’t spend time together anymore.
I don’t really know why my sister
doesn’t reach out to me. Seeking
answers to a question that may
never be answered is exhausting.
Would you accept that the fractured
relationship could stay the same?
LARA, VIA EMAIL.

I’m guessing this isn’t the first time
you have asked her for financial
support. Possibly she is avoiding
you because you have your hand
out to her and she isn’t interested in
helping anymore. Look at the kind
of sibling you are and you may get
a better understanding of why she
doesn’t want to spend time with
you. Try asking the issuer of the bill
to go on a payment plan so you can
manage your own finances and
perhaps your relationship with your
sister will improve over time.

My friend divorced her
husband earlier this year and
she had no-one to go to besides me,
so I took her in and she’s been living
with me since. I’ve done so much for
her including loaning her money,
taking her calls and inviting her to
events. I’ve tried to talk to her about
moving on, but she can’t imagine
being alone. I’m so busy already
with my own family and work.
What should I do?
SALLY, VIA EMAIL.

It’s time to issue an eviction notice
to your friend. You‘ve helped her
through a time of need and been a
good friend, but now it’s time to put
your family and work first. Your
friend needs to learn to live on her
own and the longer you keep her
from doing this, the harder it will be
for her. It’s time to be cruel to be
kind. Tell her it’s time she stood on
her own two feet and give her a
time frame of a few weeks to get
her new, solo life sorted.
