or centuries, members of
the royal family have relied
heavily on others to look
after and raise their
children. “It’s essentially a
tradition,” says a palace
source. “Don’t forget, Prince
William and his brother,
Prince Harry, were the products of a very
unhappy marriage — and spent much of their
childhood being shuttled between
stiff-upper-lipped relatives, nannies and posh
boarding schools.” And while the two were
always shown affection by their mother,
Princess Diana, the source notes the boys
“didn’t have a very family-centric upbringing.”
But now that William has children of his own,
he and wife Duchess Kate, both 37, are bucking
royal protocol and raising Prince George, 5,
Princess Charlotte, 4, and Prince Louis , 14
months, under their own set of rules. “William
and Kate are extremely hands-on. Everyone at
the palace is in awe of what wonderful parents
they are — and how they’ve managed to raise
such sweet and grounded children,” an insider
tells OK!, adding that the royal tots live a
