GREAT PREGNANCY AND
BREASTFEEDING BRAS

BREASTFEEDING
POSITIONS FOR
NEW MOMS

THE FOOTBALL HOLD
This position is great for
moms with very large
breasts or inverted
nipples. If you had a
C-section, this position
will also work well as your baby won’t
lie on your incision while you feed.
Hold your baby by your side. She
should be lying on her back with her
head at breast level. Support the
back of your baby’s head with your
hand while she nurses. Your little one’s
bum should be up against whatever
you are sitting in, whether it be the
back of the chair or couch. Bend her
legs at the hip so she doesn’t push
her feet against the chair or couch,
as this will affect how she latches.

THE CRADLE HOLD
The cradle hold is the
most common, and
easiest, breastfeeding
positions for moms
and babies. Hold your
baby cradled in your arms. Support
her head with your forearm and make
sure her body is turned towards yours.

THE CROSS-CRADLE HOLD
The American
Pregnancy Association
recommends this
position for new moms
right after birth, and until
you get a little more confident in getting
your baby to latch correctly. Use the arm
on the opposite side you will be feeding
from to hold and support your baby,
while you use the hand on the side you
are feeding from to support your breast.
Lay your baby next to you, facing you,
and support the back of his head with
your opposite hand. Use the hand on
the side your baby is feeding from to
hold and navigate your breast and
nipple. As soon as your baby is latched
on, move your arms to the cradle hold.
