Bittu Sahgal, Editor of Sanctuary, reminds us that despite our
political diff erences, we must unite in the face of the climate crisis.

COMMENTS

It is unfortunate that even when reports are open to the
public to see how forest lands are diverted, how rights are
curtailed, and how people are dying due to pollution, they
choose not to react. Instead, they buy designer masks. That’s
the political choice people are making.

Time is running out.

As long as it doesn’t directly or visibly aff ect them, as long as they
are not made aware of it through education, they will not care.

Chandrika Rao

The climate strike is on! Our kids are showing us the way. We
roll up our sleeves and get back to work.

Amitabh Nanda, Goa

We just elected a Government that’s all set to molest
India’s environment and wildlife with even more rigor. Its
brutal majority shows that Indians don’t care. In Indian
democracy, citizens have no rights nor ways of reversing the
government’s destructive decisions.

Wildlife Sanctuary, in a desperate search for larger forests.

Five years ago, the Supreme Court ordered the relocation
of some healthy lions from Gir to Madhya Pradesh for the
safety of the species. But the Gujarat government denied
relocation; they wanted monopoly in lion tourism. So, these
lions are ironically imprisoned in a sanctuary and even their
corridors are blocked!

The Gujarat government is obviously using tourism for
fi nancial gain and is not concerned about the health of the
pride. Deliberately blocking corridors will cause frustration
among these lions.

Sadly, politics has so much infl uence on all wildlife. It would
be nice to think that governments could use their signifi cant
infl uences to make a better world for all animals and their forests.

We don’t have the right to take away their homes. We are
meant to share this planet equally, but humans have much
more greed running through their veins than any set of paws.
