Tell us what UX Triggers does.
Imagine having the ability to upload any design,
marketing material or website for a detailed market
research report within minutes. UX Triggers analyses
your image by breaking down the colour psychology
of the composition. If you’re interested in the golden-
ratio portion of design, each report also employs a set
of overlays to understand where key focal points in a
design exist.
For marketers, UX Triggers has a premium level
that utilises research data to generate market
acceptance ratings by gender, age group and provides
scores for quality, trust, reliability and emotional
triggers like fear, courage, fun and loneliness.

Why did you create it?
I created the first prototype that focused exclusively
on the golden-ratio tool about ten years ago. It was
used over 15,000 times and Creative Bloq eventually
named it a top 20 tool for website layouts in 2015.
Since then, I have gone on to grow a successful UX
agency where the size of our clientele continues to
grow. During this growth a trend emerged. Early stage
market research was tedious and expensive for large
clients. They would spend thousands of dollars and
wait weeks or sometimes months to receive a basic
report from other agencies before they could explore
design and marketing strategies with their team.

I wanted to launch an affordable service that would
automate initial market research and enable anyone
to gain valuable insight to help guide initial design
ideation within minutes.

What were you hoping to achieve?
There is a distinct lack of research that goes into
spreading important design and marketing leadership
online. Blog posts cite incorrect data, ‘fluff metrics’
that are meaningless or fail to cite an original source.
I want to generate reports and content that can be
cited in confidence and are fully backed by actual
research data. Real data is factual and it’s important;
it needs to be the first step in strategic planning.

What technologies were used in building it?
The initial release was built on WordPress. I was
always inspired by what Digital Telepathy did with
Hello Bar. We structured the data in such a way that
we can move away from WordPress without much
difficultly in order to scale.

How has it been received?
The reception has been amazing. We soft launched in
January and are seeing over 400 monthly active users
with over 100 registered accounts already. All without
marketing. A big part of this is the free access we give
to the core reports.

What do you think you’ll do next with it?
The larger goal is partnering with educators, agencies
and freelancers to improve the accessibility of design,
strategy of marketing and leverage our innate
curiosity to spearhead new research for our industry.
