Primarily built to function as an interactive New Year
card for their many fans, this quirky web game comes
courtesy of the talented people at Dogstudio. The Belgian
agency, which also boasts an office in Chicago, comprises a
self-confessed “crazy team” that happen to win a crazy
amount of awards.
Snoop Dogs is clearly what gets made in the team’s
downtime from high-profile client work and probably was
conceived, let’s face it, from the name. Unrelated but surely
inspired by Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr himself, this is rapid-
fire arcade silliness perfect for enjoying on all devices. The
challenge becomes literally to ‘snoop dogs’, shining a torch
around the browser to spot, click and capture particular
pooches. Time is ticking too: you need to hammer the
spacebar to recharge batteries before the lamplight fizzles
out to darkness.
It’s all wonderfully realised and executed with technical
aplomb but ultimately the big lesson is in the simplicity of
its concept. Web games are at their most effective when
so refined and this one is also tough enough to encourage
repeated plays. High scores can be shared through Facebook
and Twitter links, providing some nice promotional focus for
the very worthy Dogstudio in the process.
