CALENDAR

AUG. 24 SuCh After visiting post-earthquake Haiti
in 2010 as a first responder, former Denver
nurse Su Charles decided life was too short to
not pursue her passion: music. The R&B singer
has already made her way onto the charts—
with the sweet single “Sugar Maple” in 2013—
and now she’s back with the slow and sensual
“Before Dark.” Her consistent soulful sound
netted her the title of the only black American
woman to win an All African Music Award
(basically, the continent’s Grammy Award) in

  1. Sat 7 p.m. Soiled Dove Underground,
    7401 E. First Ave., 303-830-9214. $25-$30.
    Visit iamsuch.com.

Tue-Sun, times vary. Denver Center for the
Performing Arts, 1101 13th St., 303-893-4100,

AUG. 15–16 Oddville: A Love Story?
Denver comic and former America’s Got Tal-
ent contestant Dave Shirley will perplex and
challenge viewers in this futuristic twist on the
classic boy-meets-girl tale. Shirley and his co-
star Robert Dubac tell the story of a depressed
man who finds his soulmate online. There’s
one hitch: She’s a digital screen. The love story
that ensues will have onlookers questioning
what, exactly, constitutes a relationship as well
as how to find happiness in the digital age.
Thu 7 p.m.; Fri 5:30 p.m.; Pikes Peak Center,
190 S. Cascade Ave., Colorado Springs,
719-477-2100, pikespeakcenter.com. $50.

AUG. 30 Help Me, I’m Dying Comedy Tour
Followers of RuPaul’s Drag Race will get to
watch fan-favorite Katya Zamolodchikova
flaunt her comedic prowess at this one-woman
show. Gut-busting lip sync performances
(Ariana Grande, anyone?) and satirical
impersonations of the star’s own made-up
characters, such as the crude, middle-aged
Trish, make the affair a raunchy riot. Topped
off with vivacious dance moves and sparkling
costumes, Zamolodchikova proves herself as
a true comedy queen. Fri 8 p.m. Paramount
Theatre, 1621 Glenarm Pl., 303-623-0106.
$25-$65. Visit altitudetickets.com.

SPORTS & RECREATION

AUG. 3 Copper Triangle There are plenty of
ways to tour the Rockies, but this lung-busting
adventure offers one of the most challenging.
The 79-mile loop traverses the White River and
San Isabel national forests, climbing over three
10,000 foot-plus passes. While the event is not
competitive, the sweeping vistas and towering
peaks like Mt. Elbert will be reward enough. Sat
6-7:45 a.m. 509 Copper Rd., Copper Mountain,
970-968-2318. $180. Visit rollmassif.com.

AUG. 17 Just Peachy Run While most races greet
finishers with medals or boozy beverages,
those who complete this fast-and-flat run will
be rewarded with a sweet treat: a fresh Palisade
peach. Jog along the rushing Colorado River for
five or 10 kilometers before reaching the finish
line to claim your juicy prize. For those who
prefer more lively post-race festivities, your entry
gets you into the Palisade Peach Festival, where
your hard-earned appetite can be satiated with
fare from vendors like Be Crepêful—much of it
made with the township’s signature fruit. Sat 8
a.m. Riverbend Park, 451 Pendleton St., Palisade,
970-744-4450. $20-$45. Visit justpeachyrun.com.

AUG. 23–25 Gore Canyon Fest What better way to
celebrate this year’s record-breaking snowpack
than at one of Colorado’s premier white-water
fests? Paddlers will compete in events like the
downriver sprint and the freestyle rodeo, which
features kayakers performing their best moves in
the waves. If you want to get wet but would like
some milder action, join the leisurely family float
or SUP paddle—a great way to toast an epic
white-water season. Fri-Sun, times vary. Rancho
del Rio, 4199 Trough Rd., Bond, 770-490-1271.
Ticket prices vary. Visit americanwhitewater.org.

PERFORMING ARTS

AUG. 7–AUG. 18 Anastasia Popularized by Disney,
this classic musical follows amnesia-stricken
Anya, who becomes caught up in a plan to
impersonate Russia’s Grand Duchess Anastasia
after her family is murdered in the 1917 Bol-
shevik Revolution. As Anastasia’s grandmother
seeks to find her, con men Dmitry and Vlad
try to trick forgetful Anya into believing she’s
the heiress. Those familiar with the tale have
reason to revisit: A fresh score by Stephen Fla-
herty and Lynn Ahrens makes the show new.
