A Slightly Torn VMO,

a Very Slight Setback
I had planned on starting off the
season with a win at the Toronto
Pro, but things happen sometimes. I
fi rst felt something funny in my left
leg aft er a night out with my friends.
It was just below my abductor. I
trained legs the next Monday, going
up to seven plates a side on squats.
I felt a litt le twinge there, but I took
some painkillers that week and
kept on with my training. It was the
leg workout aft er that when I went
heavy on front squats that the pain
got much worse and I knew I had to
address it. The deep-tissue massage
therapist at my gym worked on it, but
he went too hard and made it worse.
That whole thigh got infl amed,
bruised, and puff ed up with fl uid. I
went for an ultrasound, and there
was a slight tear going up the middle
of my VMO, or vastus medialis
oblique. This was bett er news than
a tear at the tendon. I had to take off
four weeks from leg training, and for
about three of those I was limping
around everywhere. It felt fi ne
aft er that, but there was still water
retention. My right leg appears to be
in much bett er condition as a result.
So plans have changed, and now my
target is the Batt le of Britain show on
June 30. It would be nice to get a pro
win right here in the UK!

I get that Kai Greene is one of the best bodybuilders in the world.
So are Ramy and Roelly. Why do they need to qualify , then? It wouldn’t
be fair to let Kai bypass the qualifi cation system the rest of us have
to adhere to. Of course, he would stir up commotion and bring a lot of
hype to the show. But Kai won’t do the Olympia.
He has no reason to. He’s sitt ing back in his
armchair smiling, thinking about the next movie
or TV project he’s got booked. Kai believes in
himself and has nothing to prove to anybody.
Could he beat Shawn Rhoden? Surely he
could. But why would he put himself on the
line to maybe get second or third place? He’s
a businessman now and he thinks about the
bigger picture. Kai knows the Olympia needs
him a lot more than he needs the Olympia at
this point. He holds all the cards. Personally, I don’t think we need him.
There is plenty of talent in the show and more new guys coming up the
ranks all the time.
