Parrot

Dear It GiRL,
This is my new
fluffy Maltese
puppy, Frankie.
His favourite thing
to do at night is
snuggle in to some
blankets, or one
of our beds, and
totally chill out. He
is the cutest pet
ever. Jessica, 10,
Sydney, NSW

  • Outdoor pets need
a bit more food in winter
    to help them stay warm.

  • Some cats like to sleep
    under parked cars in
    winter, so be sure to
    always check before your
    parents start the car.

  • Make sure your pet has
a warm place to rest like
    a kennel or cosy bed.

I'D LIKE TO GET A BUNNY. HOW DO I CARE
FOR ONE AND IS THERE A PARTICULAR KIND
OF BUNNY I SHOULD GET? ALSO, CAN
I TEACH A BUNNY ITS NAME?

It is possible to teach a bunny
to respond to its name but its
not an easy job. Most rabbits
are likely to respond to the
sound of their food being
shaken, so make sure you say
your bunny's name each time
you shake their food container.
In time, your rabbit should
associate their name with
food and respond to you.
All domestic rabbits will make
a great pet. Best of luck!

3 TIPS TO LOOKING AFTER PETS IN WINTER

l There are at least 315
different species of parrots.
They are among the most
intelligent birds.
l Smaller parrots can live for
up to 15 years, while larger
parrots, like the macaw, can
live for more than 75 years!
l Parrots have thick
muscular tongues which
helps them eat fruit, seeds,
buds, nectar and pollen.
l Pet parrots can mimic
noises. The best at this is the
African Gray parrot.
l If you decide to get
a parrot as a pet, keep
in mind that they are
social animals and they
like lots of attention.
