The Book Illustration
Competition 2020
Details: Now in its 10th year, the
Book Illustration Competition,
organised by The Folio Society
and the House of Illustration,
invites entrants to illustrate
poetry by creating three pieces
for Love Poems – a brand new
anthology selected and edited
by Imtiaz Dharker that ranges
through time and across
cultures. The three poems to be
illustrated for the competition
are by Dharker, Emily Dickinson
and John Donne. The annual
competition is open to any
illustrators over the age of 18
who have not been previously
commissioned by The Folio
Society. The winner will be
revealed at an awards ceremony
at House of Illustration, receiving
a commission from The Folio
Society worth £5,000 to complete
the illustrations and the binding
for this edition. Five prizes of
£500 each will be presented to
the other shortlisted entries.

Royal Cambrian Academy
Open Exhibition 2020
Details: Open exhibition for
artists and students aged over
18 and who live and work in or
outside Wales. All media, 2D or
3D, including painting, sculpture,
ceramics and photography. An
exhibition of accepted work
will go on show at the Royal
Cambrian Academy, Crown Lane,
Conwy LL32 8AN, from January 4
to February 8, 2020.

Royal Institute of Painters
in Water Colours (RI)
Details: Annual open exhibition
featuring the best in modern
and traditional contemporary
watercolour painting. Acceptable
media are watercolour or water-
soluble media, including acrylic,
ink or gouache painted on paper
or a paper-based support, but

not water-soluble oils. This year
will be the 208th exhibition.
Artists over the age of 18 may
submit up to six works; up to
four may be selected. Online
submission for preselection at
http://www.registrationmallgalleries.
org.uk. Numerous prizes and
awards, including the Winsor &
Newton Award, £3,000; and the
Leathersellers’ Prize of £1,000
awarded to an artist between 18
and 30; the Matt Bruce Memorial
Award for the most outstanding
use of light and colour, £500;
the Schmincke Award and
many other prizes. Download

Royal Society of British
Artists (RBA)
Details: Artists aged over 18, from
the UK and beyond, are invited

to submit works for exhibition
alongside members of the Royal
Society of British Artists at their
annual exhibition at the Mall
Galleries, London, from February
20 to 29, 2020. The exhibition
ofers several prizes and awards,
open to all participating artists.
Maximum size 942in (240cm) in
the largest dimension.
When: Submission is now open;
closes Friday November 29;
12 noon. The receiving day for
entries is Saturday January 11,
10am to 5pm.

Royal Society of Miniature
Painters, Sculptors and
Gravers (RMS)
Details: Annual open exhibition
of miniature art. Up to ive works
may be submitted. Entrants must
be 18 or over; young artists,
between 18 and 30 should
mark their work accordingly
with date of birth on the entry
schedule. See website for full
details of exact measurements
of acceptable work. Many
awards and prizes are ofered. An
exhibition of selected work will
go on show at the Mall Galleries,

London from November 28 to
December 8.

Royal Watercolour
Society Contemporary
Watercolour Competition
Details: Established by the Royal
Watercolour Society, this annual
competition aims to encourage
innovation and experimentation
in all water-based media and
provides a prestigious platform
for both established and
emerging artists. Submissions
fee: £15 per entry, with discounts
on multiple entries. Prizes include
artists’ materials, cash, exhibiting
awards and much more. An
exhibition of selected works
will go on show at the Bankside
Gallery, 48 Hopton Street,
London SE1, from March 6 to 18.

The Upton Country Park
Open 2019
Details: The Gallery Upstairs is
inviting artists in any visual art
medium (except photography
and video), living in a 15-mile
radius of Poole, to create new
and original work for the Upton
Country Park Open 2019. There’s
no theme this year. An exhibition
of selected work will go on show
at The Gallery Upstairs, Upton
Country Park from November 30
to December 19.
