Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah
Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah of
Pahangissettobeceremoniallycoronatedas
the 16th successor of Malaysia’s monarchy, the
Yang di-Pertuan Agong of the country. This
newest King has had an illustrious history,
being the descendant of Sultan Ahmad Shah,
whoservedastheseventhYangdi-Pertuan
Agong of Malaysia from April 1979 to 1984.
His coronation comes at an exciting time, as
he will chair in the time of ‘New Malaysia’, as
the ruling power shifts from Barisan National
to the Pakatan Harapan party, and is in
wake of the 15th Agong who was the first to
openly abdicate. The King will serve as the
formal head of the executive, legislative, and
judiciary branches, as well as Commander in
Chief of the Armed Forces.

The 30th of July has been declared a national
holiday for his ceremonial installation, and
will see an elaborate royal procession to
theNationalPalaceatJalanTuankuAbdul
Halim. Royal celebrations will include a 21-
gun salute by the Royal Artillery Regiment,
display of the Royal Regalia, presentation of
the Quran, a speech from the Prime Minister,
and thanksgiving prayers.
