What is your home country? How long
have you been in Malaysia?
I am from Jiangsu, China, and I’ve been in
Malaysia for more than five years.

What motivated you to look to Malaysia
for your education plans? Prices? Tropical
location? Family or friends?
Malaysia is a multi-cultural country.
People are very friendly over here and
there are great varieties of food available!
There are a lot of places to explore while
you are studying here to learn about the
culture of different ethnicities.

Has the academic programme been
satisfactory? Do you find the coursework
engaging?
My lecturer and tutor are very
professional and knowledgeable. They
teach us patiently in every lesson and
encourage us to ask more questions. I
am able to focus in class as they are very
interesting. With my lecturer’s guidance, I
am able to excel in my ACCA.

What about the extracurricular activities
offered by your school? Are those part of
your life?
The university also offers different kinds
of clubs and societies for students to join.
However, as ACCA is very tough and time-
consuming, I have not been able to join
any extracurricular activites.

Finally, how about the lifestyle and

“outside of school” offerings in Malaysia

(and/or Kuala Lumpur)? Are you able to

have a good balance of social life and

academic life here?

I have been able to mingle with friends of

different nationalities. We enjoy hanging

out and exploring other states in Malaysia.

Sunway City is very safe with a lot of

convenience. I am able to walk from the

campus to my hostel, and even to the mall.

Do you find the cost of living – eating

out, activities, social pursuits – to be

affordable?

Living is Malaysia is very affordable

especially if you take the time to cook

your own meals. There are many food

stalls around Sunway that are very

convenient and cheap, so we are able to

have a meal as low as RM5. The university

also offers different kinds of clubs and

societies for students to join.

To pursue my objectives, I selected

Sunway University for my PhD

(Computing) studies, as it provides the

best research opportunities to learn

theoretically as well as practically. The

university’s close collaboration with the

industry is a good way of learning about

real-world work. The university puts

massive emphasis on ground breaking

research, and innovative development

that can make a real difference in

the world. Supported by the Jeffrey

Cheah Foundation, Sunway University

isinvestingheavilyinresearchand

development.

Has the academic programme been

satisfactory? Do you find the coursework

engaging?

The course mainly consists of two

modules, namely Research Methodology

and Directed Readings, in addition to the

Thesis component. The course module

helps me to gain an insight into the

different areas of research in computing

and experience its diverse and applicable

nature.

The interactive and practical tutorials

conducted by the supervisor and

lectures, both in group settings and

one-to-one have been stimulating and

inspiring. They have helped develop my

communication and critical thinking

skills whilst increasing my knowledge and

understanding of the field.

The support from the staff has really

enhanced my experience so far, and it has

been fantastic getting to know the other

students on my course, both working

together during group discussions and

projects, and socialising outside of

research.

What about the extracurricular activities

offered by your school? Are those part of

The campus is very much alive as there

are always activities going on in many
