My Wedding – July 2019

(Nora) #1

Helping a daughter plan her packing list for a Big OE got me thinking about the dilemmas
brides face when planning a wedding in a foreign or remote location.

We’ve all packed for a holiday ... and I’m sure we’ve all reached our destination and realised
we’ve left something in the closet or on the bathroom shelf. Problem solved – go shopping!

With a wedding, there’s not much chance of that! Yes, you can make do by scrounging
whatever you can from the resort, or perhaps scamper to a nearby market or mall for a few
local items ... but, chances are, you’ll just have to do without if it’s an heirloom piece of
jewellery, your beautiful new shoes or an accessory in a very specific colour.

So, what’s the moral of this story, you ask? Lists!

Planning, checking, ticking and re-checking. When packing for a shoot, I find that I work from
the head down on each garment we’re photographing ... veil or hair accessories, earrings,
necklace, bra, gown, bracelet, ring, panties, stockings, garter, shoes. Itemise each detail,
order it in, tick it off ... and tick it off again when packing! Multiply this by anywhere between
eight and twenty ensembles, and you get an idea of the detail involved in a location shoot;
and then you need to factor in the airline tickets, models, accommodation bookings, local
transport, passports, visas ... and the rest!

So, yes, we know how brides feel; lists become either a friend or a foe. We strongly urge
you to make them a friend. Work through those lists methodically from the beginning and
leave very little to chance.

As for honeymoons ... we all know what they are really about ... forgetting about lists!

As always,
