MATAMATA

AN UNTAPPED GEM IN THE WAIKATO

Having recently moved to the Matamata area, our editor was keen to explore what options
were available for weddings. To her utter delight, she discovered a host of very talented
suppliers and some beautiful venues. Over the next few issues, we’ll bring you a variety of
editorial on just what to expect in this jewel of the Waikato, tucked quietly away around
1.5 hours from Auckland.

Many of you only know Matatama because of its Hobbiton claim to fame. That in itself is a
reason to visit. However, there’s much more to the area than appears at first glance. Just
ask the locals and they’ll espouse for ages on the beauty and variety of the surrounding
region, things to do, places to visit, and beds to lay your weary head at the end of long
days exploring.

In the first of our glimpses, we put together a small team to showcase just how you can
take a plain venue in the centre of town and, with the help of their skills and talents, turn
it into a venue any bride and groom would be proud of on their wedding day.

The Matamata RSA can seat anywhere between 20 and 100, catering for breakfast, lunch
and dinner functions. It is centrally located in the town with plenty of on-site parking. The
restaurant offers a range of menus for those special events.

Don’t rule this one out just because you aren’t yet a member ... talk to the team as they
always welcome prospective members to view the facilities!
