- Since standard table height is 30 inches, set the bench seat at
18 inches, allowing a foot clearance from top of bench to bottom of
table. Also, the table should overlap the bench edge by 3 or 4 inches. - To properly size the length of a banquette, allow for a minimum
of 21 inches of seating width per person, along with 18 inches for
seating depth. - Create more storage space in a kitchen or breakfast nook by
either hinging the seats of a banquette or providing doors or drawers
underneath it.
BANQUETTE basics
style shouldn’t be forfeited either; they can be created as
elegantly and posh as the space dictates. And as Jernigan
explains, this convenient seating option doesn’t always have
to be built-in. Furniture such as open-ended couches and
benches accomplish similar effects. “I like to tell my clients
that banquettes aren’t the answer for every situation, but they
may be the only answer where space is scarce.”
