Mirka Mora:
A Life Making Art
Sabine Cotte
Thames and Hudson
With this publication author Sabine Cotte
shares the creative processes of artist Mirka
Mora (1928-2018), a Melbourne icon who over
the course of her career produced hundreds of
artworks including textiles, dolls, paintings,
drawings and large-scale public murals in
fresco and mosaic. Having spent many hours
with Mora in her studio surrounded by her
artworks, easels, paints brushes and other
artistic mediums, and with access to the
artist’s diaries, photos, newspaper clippings
and memorabilia, Cotte gained a new
understanding for the materials Mora chose
to explore.
‘A Life Making Art’ is an important archive of 60
years of artmaking by a remarkable woman and
artist who carried an insatiable appetite for art
and life and a resolute dedication to her work.
Eveline Kotai
Invisible Threads
Art Collective WA
Featuring essays by Julie Ewington, Nyanda
Smith and Helen Thurloe and 170 colour
plates ‘Invisible Threads’ is the final
publication in a series of three produced by
Art Collective WA on contemporary West
Australian artists and is the first monograph
to be published on Eveline Kotai. It surveys
Kotai’s 40-year career, traversing painting,
drawing, print and stitched collage. Kotai’s
compositions bring focus to new illusory
dimensions where light, pattern, texture and
line merge illuminated in earthy tones, pastel
combinations and fusions of reds, blues,
greens and gold – reflections of the landscape,
place, memory and observation.
Kotai’s work is on view at the Art Gallery of
Western Australia from 17 August to January
2020 in the ‘WA Now: Artist in focus’ exhibition.
