Visi – July 2019

(Chris Devlin) #1
Two guest suites can be linked via this passage to create a family unit. The steel
ClearVu fence provides a sense of being outside in the bush yet safe, and both
exposed and private. The external timber cladding comes from old railway
sleepers, referencing the erstwhile Selati Railway Line.
OPPOSITE Nic Plewman looked at the South African vernacular of the stoep,
and reinterpreted the colonial mainstays of steel, timber and stone in
a contemporary way. Flat roofs, coated in river sand from the site, allow the
guest suites to blend into the natural surrounds.
