The Dalkmanns, who live in Germany,

tasked CapeTown architectBettina Woodward ofOpen City

Architects,whoisalsoClara’ssister,withthejobofcreating their

elegant,fuss-freefamilygetawayontheWestCoast.

A keyrequirementoftheprojectbriefwastheprovisionofsun-

nyoutdoorentertainmentspacesthatwouldafforduninterrupted

viewsofthelagoonandoffershelterfromthenotoriousprevailing

wind.Theestate’sarchitecturalguidelinesdictatedthatthehouse

hadatleastonepitchedroofandonlysquarewindows, which
