To mark this, in collaboration with

Hausby HertexJanhasdeveloped
a rangeof artisanalcrockerythat
exploresthetheme“Ashesto ashes,
dustto dust”.Wetclayplates,
decoratedwithgrass,are firedto
burnawaythegrassandleaveonly
delicatemarkings.Theyare then
buriedin theground,coveredin grass
andburntagain,givingeachpiece
a uniquesmokedpattern.
“It is in this weathering that we

appreciatelife themost,”saysJan.
He hasalsodevelopeda new
collectionof tablecloths,tea
towelsandscattercushionsthat
exploresthefragilityof life – and
eventual,inevitabledecay.Therange
encompassestwoprints:a design
of driedvinesandleaves,and
a botanical/animal print.
