Is your make-up bag
contributing to plastic
waste? Every year between
800 and 900 million
lipsticks are
bought globally,
many of which
include plastic
components. In a bid to reduce
waste, Lush has joined the re-fill
revolution with its new reusable
lipstick case, priced at £7.95.
Inspired by vintage Hollywood
make-up, simply choose from
over 40 Naked Refill lipstick shades,
insert into the case and you’re
good to go! Then once it runs out,
you can do it all over again. To find
out more, visit http://www.lush.com.

If you want quick, informative
updates on environmental
news, then Green Matters
is the website for you. Read
up on eco-friendly travel and
parenting tips, and get the
latest on global renewables
around the clock as Green
Matters continues to shed
light on the important issues
facing our planet.

Cork is one of
the world’s
most important
renewable forest
materials, and its
purpose extends
far beyond
keeping your
vino fresh! As
well as producing
stoppers for
4,000 bottles,
a single tree can
forge fashion,
homeware and kitchen products

  • just like this mat and trivet from
T&G. Every nine years the bark from
a cork oak tree is stripped off in a thick
cylindrical layer and left to stabilise outdoors for six months
before being transformed into a wide variety of products,
including bottle stoppers, shuttlecocks and floor tiles. To take a look

We speak to Vanessa
Willes, founder of
Mangle & Wringer,
on how to beat
stains without using
harsh chemicals...

Eco expert

‘Most people don’t realise that tackling
stains with natural remedies is often
far more effective than chemical stain
removers.Eucalyptus oil is fantastic
for oil stains, and milk is great for
removing ink.My golden rules are:
no hot water on protein stains, no
soap on tannin stains and no heat on
grease stains until the stain has been
removed. The one thing I couldn’t
live without is a Bette’s Bar.It ’s made
entirely from coconut oil, doesn’t
contain petrochemical ingredients or
palm oil, plus it’s plastic-free; you can
clean just about everything with it!’

You could provide life-changing
educational equipment for vulnerable
children all over the world through the Clarks
Shoe Share partnership with Unicef. For every
tonne of shoes collected by Clarks, a donation is
made to Unicef which goes towards schemes such
as School in a Box; inside each one is a variety of
educational tools that can transform any space into
a learning area for up to 40 students. To take part,
simply drop off your old or unwanted shoes at
a Clarks store – you could even organise
your own shoe collection! To find
your nearest store, head to
