Smart savings
If you prefer the taste of bottled water, and
buy a 500ml bottle daily, this not only has a
big impact on the
environment, but
could add up to a cost
of at least £10 per
month. Get the taste
without the waste by
investing in a reusable
water filter bottle
such as Brita’s Fill and
Go Vital, available at
Argos and priced
at around £15.

If it’s likely that you’ll be taking a few trips over a year, it’s worth considering
annual travel insurance. You’ll pay a little more initially but will save in the long run.
n Certain bank providers, such as Barclays and Natwest, include travel insurance along with certain
bank accounts – usually the ones with a small annual cost. It’s worth contacting your bank and
asking if you have access to travel insurance, and if not, what it would cost you to switch to an
account that includes it.
n Certain credit cards, such as some of the rewards cards with American Express, offer travel
insurance as a benefit. If the travel insurance provided works for your trip and the items you are
taking are covered, this could cut the cost of
insurance completely.
n You’ll never have to pay full price again for your
travel insurance with TopCashback.co.uk. Plus,
you can get up to £48.27 on travel insurance with
providers such as Sainsbury’s bank, Virgin Money,
Travel Supermarket and More Than.
n Many people are unaware that some home and
contents insurances will cover the cost of personal
belongings when travelling. If your insurance
provider offers this, you can then save by excluding
the personal belongings cover on your travel
insurance policy.
n Use comparison sites to make sure you’re getting
the best deal. Sites such as MoneySuperMarket and
Go Compare display a list of providers and their
insurance policies and features available.
