ith two growing sons, Michelle
Vanlint, 47, and her husband
Neill wanted to create a usable
indoor space at the bottom of their garden.
‘We moved here before having the boys,’
explains Michelle, ‘but now Miles, 17 and
Louis, 15, both need their own space.’
The family decided that a garden room
might be the perfect solution, so had a
local company, London Garden Rooms,
come round to talk about designs.

‘They suggested going full width across
the garden with a patio area set at an
angle,’ recalls Michelle. The designer also
suggested cladding the room with cedar
wood because it has a warm honey tone that
would complement the garden perfectly.
With the building work set to begin,
Michelle started thinking about decoration.
‘I wanted it to be a relaxing area for friends
and family that could also be used for
overnight stays,’ she explains.

Michelle had a wooden retreat created to give

her family another space to work, rest and play

Good idea!

Opt for space-saving nesting tables
that provide extra surfaces for
impromptu guests without taking
up too much room.

The small kitchen area
ensures a well-equipped
space for entertaining,
so there’s no need for
Michelle to dash back to
the house for extra supplies

The L-shaped sofa converts into
a comfy double bed and has
plenty of storage space too
