shopping list was furniture. ‘The room is
quite small so it needed multifunctional
pieces that would work extra hard,’
Michelle explains. While out looking for
sofa beds, the family spotted an L-shaped
design in IKEA that would work perfectly.
‘I was originally looking for a small sofa
bed,’ Michelle recalls, ‘but this bigger
version fits the room perfectly – and it
has storage space inside, too.’ With the
addition of plenty of patterned cushions,
Michelle made it look cosy and welcoming.
The nesting tables were her next great
buy, contrasting well with the green colour
scheme and offering extra surface space.
‘I also wanted some outdoor furniture
for the lawn,’ recalls Michelle, ‘and I
couldn’t resist the green bistro set from
HomeSense. It’s perfect for eating outside
when the sun comes out.’ Some tropical
print cushions further brighten up the
chairs and make them extra comfy.STEP THREEFor a super-relaxing
ambience, Michelle scattered lots of
scented candles around the space, then
added a mixture of real and artificial
flowers and plants to freshen up the
room. The large sliding doors let in huge
amounts of natural light, meaning the
retreat feels bright and invigorating all
year round. ‘We love how the room looks
from the outside and in,’ smiles Michelle.
‘It’s enhanced the garden no end and now
we get to enjoy it, come rain or shine.’ YHGood idea!
