Do you know your quartz from your
Corian? Find out which material is right for
your design and budget with this expert
guide by Raman Judge, Category Manager
for Showroom Kitchens at Wickes:
With such a wide selection of worktops to choose
from, it’s important to take your time and think
about factors such as design, price and durability.
lSolid Surface Offering a super-contemporary
look, these worktops are growing in popularity
and there are plenty of options to choose from.
Made from a blend of mineral dust and resin,
they can be moulded to give a seamless, join-free
finish and can incorporate curves and integrated
sinks. Brands include Corian by DuPont, Apollo
Magna or Slab Tech. All Wickes solid surfaces
are made to measure and fitted by specialist
installers. From approx £300 per linear metre.
lStone effect If you want to mimic the look
and feel of high-end granite, opt for engineered
stone quartz. Comprised of around 95 per cent
natural quartz and resin, a wide variety of colours
and looks are available including metallic and
glass-flecked finishes. Popular brands to look
out for are Silestone, Apollo, Caesarstone and
Maxtop. Finally, recycled glass worktops are
similar in appearance to quartz and made from

80 per cent recycled glass for a uniform finish.
From approx £300 per linear metre.
lStone and wood Granite is one of the
hardest materials on earth and incredibly easy to
clean. No two pieces are alike, offering a unique
finish that man-made substances can’t match.
Granite costs from around £200 per linear metre.
Solid wood worktops, crafted from hardwood
staves joined together and finely oiled, have an
antibacterial, smooth and water-repellent finish.
From £150 per linear metre.
llaminate These designs offer affordable style
and quality. They are long-lasting plus impact
and stain-resistant and are available in wood,
stone and concrete effects as well as matt, gloss
and textured finishes in a wide variety of colours.
From around £30 per linear metre.
lSlim profileS U ltra-thin worktops are a key
trend and give the look of a solid surface worktop
at a fraction of the cost. Our range of Zenith and
Apollo compact laminate designs combine the
latest looks with superior performance. Available
