reality it’s not that expensive,’
she says. ‘I always ask prospective
clients lots of questions to make sure
the scheme is practical and find out
their favourite things to get a feel
for their style. You can’t just rely
on buying everything new though,
sometimes you have to work around
existing pieces.’
Having decorated their home from
top-to-bottom, Lorraine has already
set her sights set on replacing the
kitchen. Her plans include installing
patio doors and a skylight in the flat
roof above. ‘Ideally, I’d love a Juliette
balcony off it, but since there’s a
three feet drop down to the garden,
it might look a bit silly.’
Despite loving the area, which
is within easy reach of Hexham,
Newcastle and Durham, Lorraine admits
they won’t stay in the house forever. ‘When
we bought it we agreed it would be for 10
years,’ she says. ‘So next I’d love a barn
conversion or another older house further
into the countryside.’
