IT WAS fitting that while
we enjoyed a pint in
Covent Garden after
selecting our list of the
100 best players in the
world that Owen Farrell
should walk past.
The England fly-half topped our chart
when we last compiled it 18 months ago
and is one of nine Saracens included
this time. It’s no surprise the Londoners
dominate the list. Their Premiership and
European double lifts their tally of major
trophies to eight in five seasons and
there is talk of a dynasty being created.
In all, four club teams stood out when
compiling our list for they provide more
than a quarter of the players who make
the cut. As well as nine Saracens, there
are seven Crusaders and six players
apiece from the Hurricanes and Leinster.
With so much talent in their ranks, it’s
little wonder they enjoy success. But is
it good for the game that so many of the
world’s best players are shared amongst
so few clubs? A question to ponder.
Enjoy the countdown of the 100 best
players – and let us know what you think.
