Fish farm in Pong Lake


T


he Dhauladhar forms an interesting
backdrop of the magnificent Pong
Lake occasionally bounded by small
villages. Katrah, a small village, stands
on one of the serene banks of the lake.
The village with a little vehicular traffic has locational
advantage. The lake wetland supports both indigenous
and migratory birds. All can visit the knees- and lungs-
friendly place.

Morni Trail


February 26, 2019. The huge rock smoothened by
collective efforts of various erosional agencies afforded
a different view of the Pong Dam Lake besides the
most clichéd view. The expanse of water gently rippled
between the dam and the rock at Morni. There were
only two living beings, a black crow and me. The wind
and waters were neither noisy nor still. A small pebbly
sandy beach beside the rock curved along the lake. It

was unused.

On the other edge of the lake, heat haze veiled the
forested land and settlements. The sun was shiny white.
The easy short trail linking the rock and Campong,
my hotel in Katrah, partly meandered through the
shady woods and partly through the moderately steep
grassland.

Boat Point Trail
February 26, 2019. I tried to walk the very short steep
trail leading to the boat and fishing point facing the
hotel before noon. The shady trail did not even dry
