ABHA (About Best Himalayan Adventures) – July 2019

(sharon) #1
few free channels and recorded
old programs on the fewer paid
channels. The television sets
housed a pair of accomplices,
fuzzy pictures and sounds.
Room boys could not arrest the
accomplices. In Nandprayag,
the drunk attendant replied he
did not know anything about
the (TV) technology.
In Joshimath, linen and
blankets were badly stained
and stinking. The furniture was
never dusted. Intercom did not
work. The attached bathroom
with a wet ceiling was reeking
of crap probably because a
bathroom directly above that
was leaking.
In Rudraprayag, the poor
quality dressing mirror reflected
distorted images. Door curtains
were missing in my room
although all other rooms had
these curtains. Intercom was
also missing.

The more I explore the state
the more I feel it is taking a
short-cut approach consisting
of unprofessionalism and
excessive focus on religious
tourism, commercialization,
and regionalism.
