Many different types of trains, buses,
taxis, and airlines regularly connect
Dehradun to the capital of India and
other big cities, including Kanpur,
Kolkatta, Lucknow, and Mumbai.
Getting around
Dehradun Railway Station - Parade

Parade Ground – Dehradun Zoo by a
blue city bus: ₹20 per passenger
Parade Ground is the hub of public
transport, including private blue buses,
electric autos, and Vikrams.
Small buses are generally less crowded
during non-peak hours. The drivers and
conductors stop the buses wherever
they want for varied reasons: picking
up and dropping passengers, having tea
and snacks, awaiting passengers until
the bus is full.... Frequency of buses is
quite good but they may take longer
route for more revenue. Carry change to
buy low denomination tickets.
Vikram, a 10-seat shared Piaggio, is the
second cheapest option after buses for
city travel. Vikrams are numbered. Each
number is associated with a specific
city route. Shared electric autos also ply
within the city.
Non-shared electric autos and three-
seat green and yellow auto rickshaws
charge more for extra space but nowaiting period. Do bargain while taking
these rickshaws.
Eat
Several traditional dhabas on Gandhi
and Railway Station roads serve Indian
snacks and meals. Big hotels, malls,
and bakeries sit beside Rajpura Road.
Street food vendors and sweet shops are
quite common in bazaars around Clock
Tower.

Road serves, for instance, fresh
delicious sesame rolls (₹40 per piece),
mango shahi (₹30 per small serving),
strawberry pudding (₹30 per small
serving), and 250-ml Bislery (₹6). The
bakery is appointed with quality dining
furniture. A variety of chocolates make
a good gift.
Bikanerwala, RajpuraRoad, a self-
service restaurant, is popular among
locals and visitors alike. The menu
includes Indian chats and meals and a
few Chinese items.
Great Grandpa Cafe near railway
station, a small hip eatery, has more
variety for breakfast than its neighbors.
Poha and mix raita (₹170 per serving)
make a healthy breakfast.
Sleep / Stay
Dehradun serves all classes of tourists.
You can choose accommodation
according to your itinerary. If Dehradun
is just a transit point, stay near the
connecting means of transport station.
For instance, if you want to board aconnecting train, stay near the railway
station. The retiring room provides
beds in a dormitory and two double
bedrooms at the platform number 1.
The Passenger Name / Numeric Record
(P.N.R.) written on the train ticket and
online account with Indian Railway
Catering and Tourism Corporation
(I.R.C.T.C.) are the prerequisites for
booking a bed in the retiring room.
