Redskins Warpath – August 2019

(Barré) #1

6 Warpath AUGUST 6, 2019

There’s plenty of nearby parking within a short walk of
camp entrance. All city locations are $10, but there
are some private lots with variable rates, too. City lots
permit same day re-entry with parking pass. Lots
open 30 minutes prior to morning practice and close
30 minutes after the afternoon workout. Handicap
parking is directly across from the pedestrian en-
trance to camp.

Bottom line – don’t sweat parking. It’s not like Wash-
ington. There’s plenty of parking around the facility.
The only tough day is Fan Appreciation Day so arrive
early.

Training camp is free to all fans (even those mis-
guided souls who wear Cowboys jerseys. We still
can’t figure why they’re here.) However, the Red-
skins ask for fans to register online for passes. It
gives the team a better sense of attendance needs.
On Fan Appreciation Day, attendance may be limited
given the large crowd.

Camp is open to all ages, but there’s something for
the kids away from the field. The Play 60 youth fit-
ness obstacle course along with interactive tents and
giveaways are commonplace. Often, look for them in
the far end zone.

Seats? We don’t need no stinkin’ seats to watch
practice. Well, some fans might appreciate it. Here’s
the good news. You can bring your own chair and
there’s a hill by one of the fields where you can
watch comfortably. Of course, many youngsters
stand by the fence and you can, too. But, the hill is a
pretty nice place to watch practice. Remember,
chairs and bags will be checked at the gate by secu-
rity.

Food and drinks are available near the entrance
area by several local vendors. It’s the usual pizza,
chicken, fries and water, though past years have
seen a local restaurant or two offer some good
homestyle plates.

Check the Redskins.com schedule for special
events. There are skills clinics and special appear-
ances by past Redskins players and cheerleaders.

What’s the shopping like? There’s a pretty nice mer-
chandise tent.

And remember, the following items are prohibited at
the Bon Secours Washington Redskins Training
Center: alcohol, illegal drugs, weapons, firearms,
glass bottles, video cameras and animals (except for
certified guide dogs assisting disabled guests). For
more information, visit redskins.com/trainingcamp or
redskin- srva.bonsecours.com.

Autographs

Players and coaches
often sign autographs
after the morning and
afternoon sessions.
Be sure to be along the
fence and have a pen
ready. Be polite because
players don’t like yelling,
especially by young fans.
And, just have one item
ready for signing.
