breed profile q&a

DOGTA LK

H

e adapts well to city life, but he needs some
form of exercise on a daily basis. He is not
ideally suited to flats and townhouses as he is a noisy
dog with a loud bark.

Will the Dachshund

cope in the city?

Dachshund

T

he longer back of the Dachshund means
that this dog is prone to suffer from
disk problems and care should be taken,
especially when he is still a puppy. Ideally,
he shouldn’t stay in a home with many
stairs as it will place strain on his
back. He should also not jump from
or onto furniture, but rather be picked
up if he is allowed on the furniture. Also,
keep the dog’s weight in mind as extra
weight can also cause back issues.

Is there any special
care to be taken with
the Dachshund’s
long back?

D

achshunds can be seen participating in many dog shows.
Overall, he doesn’t need that much exercise, but he will
enjoy daily walks and it will also prevent him from getting bored.
When he does get bored, he may develop bad habits, like digging and
chewing objects that he can find.

How much exercise does

the Dachshund need?

T

his small dog has a big sense of humour. He is also very clever
and very alive. If you want a dog who is bold, hardy and don’t mind
a strong-minded dog, consider the Dachshund. This vocal breed is quite
affectionate and he is a trainable dog, but he can be distracted due to his high
prey drive.

What is the

Dachshund like?
