How does a dog become a champion?

Show dog Champion

I

n order to earn the title of Champion, a dog has
to win five Challenge Certificate (CC) points. CC
points are earned at championship shows in breed
classes, in other words, where the dogs compete
against their own breed.
Provided that the judge believes the competitors
are worthy of a Champion title, two CCs are awarded

in each breed, one for males and one for females.
Depending on the number of dogs competing for the
CC, it carries a value of one or two points. If there are
more than 10 competitors, the CC winner is awarded
a two-point CC. The CC points only count if a dog is
over nine months of age, and at least one CC has to
be won at over 18 months of age.

What makes a Supreme Champion?

Biggest achievement

T

he recently introduced Supreme Champion
title is the epitome of achievement for a show
dog. The title is awarded to dogs who have earned
150 points based on the same points table as Grand
Champions, but that’s not all that is required. The
dog also needs to have won at least 30 of those
points in Group or Best in Show competitions, in

other words, in competition with dogs of different
breeds. The points must be earned in at least four
provinces and the dog must have won at least
one All Breeds Best in Show award. Finally, the
dog must also be DNA profiled and earn a Bronze
Canine Good Citizen award in order to earn this very
special title.
