VD: And your studio? What is it like?

KA: For the past two-and-a-half
years—forever, really—my studio
has been in my home. Whether
tucked into the corner in our
sailboat, on the kitchen table, or the
extra bedroom, I’ve always carved
out a little work space. We have also
kept a wooden 8' tool bench in our
house for making—for me, and also
for my husband and son who use it
for woodworking, leather working,
and electronics. This past summer,
we moved to a larger space so I now
have several rooms in the basement
to spread out.

For Kristin, it’s the ‘process’ of
intentional making that elevates her
work from craft to art. In every raw
edge, visible stitch, and overlapping
element, the hand of the maker is
present, and the heart of the maker
is revealed.
