mebyatleast a decade, but
thankfully the Ferns held it
together far better than I did to
take out a memorable victory.
Our assistant editor (and
resident netball fanatic) Kelly
Bertrand chatted with the team
about the win and what comes
next, and I’m sure you’ll enjoy
this read. And, you’ll be seeing
Kelly’s face here for the next
couple of weeks. The plane
tickets I bought on a whim a
few months backareready
for takeoff this weekend!I’m
excited about gettin
of sunshine andR&R
but I’ll certainlymiss
you all.

Forthelastfewweeks,I’ve
beengoingthrough a bit of a
stressed-outpatch, and, as
a result, I keep finding myself
wide awake at 3.30am. Does
anyone else experience this?
It seems rather unfair, given
you need all the sleep you can
get during stressful times!
But on Sunday night when I
found myself bolt awake in pitch
blackness, my first thought of
“no, not again” was quickly
replaced by a true silver lining:
I’d timed it perfectly to be bright
and ready for the Ferns!
I feel like I cheated a little
because I stayed tucked up in
bed, balancing my iPad on my
knees – and, unlike the 100%
dedicated Kiwis who set an
alarm for the middle of the
night, I’d just hedged my bets
that I’d be awake. But the
important thing was that I was
there to watch such a magic
moment in our sporting history.
And what a moment. What
a team! They truly deserved
to take home gold after such
a stellar performance.
But if I was feeling stressed
before then, my goodness, that
game did nothing for my blood
pressure – it was capable of
fraying the steeliest of nerves.
I had to get up and make a cup
of tea more than once during
