Traditional Cowboy Arts Association,” says
museum director Mary Bones. “For collectors,
this is a wonderful opportunity to meet these
artists and to purchase works from both the
up-and-coming and established artists all the
while being in the beautiful Big Bend ranching
country of Texas!”
Darcie Peet finds inspiration for her
landscapes through direct experiences with
nature. Her oil Cascades of Cool came about
during a hike through Glacier National Park
where she encountered an unnamed cascade

between St. Mary’s Falls and Virginia Falls,
spilling into “aqua, jewel-like waters.” She
describes the scene: “Late afternoon sun
glances over and steps down the boulders to
the right where there is a scraggly, thin pine
barely holding on in the ledge rock, catching
sun along with spindly grasses scattered
amongst the cracks.” Peet says that sharing the
stories of her artwork with collectors allows
her to form meaningful connections with
them, often having shared similar experiences
in their backcountry adventures.

The inspiration behind the collection
of artwork at the Briscoe Western Art
Museum comes from the rich tradition of
the American West, says vice president
Liz Jackson. The museum, located in San
Antonio, Texas, educates the public through
various programs, exhibitions and events
throughout the year that reflect the traditions
and heritage of the region. Each work in its
collection supports the museum’s mission:
“the preservation of the art, history, and
culture of the American West.”
