“What Cornwell is doing by putting her at
the pinnacle is showing the progression, the
development of the West—from the pioneer
women who paved the way and then the
upper-class women who came in later,” Blume
says in the video. “By putting her in the middle
he’s also putting an importance on pioneerwomen and their role in settling in California.”
