This season’s shades are out of this world
as designers take an interstellar approach
CRAF T
Eyewear designers have set their sights firmly on the
future, with shades fitting for both summer lounging
or more intergalactic sojourns. Look to Bottega Veneta
or eyewear specialists Lindberg for graphic free-floating
lenses with industrial hardware fixtures. For those
preferring transparency, Dolce & Gabbana favours
clear acetate frames, while a collaboration between
Silhouette and Perret Schaad has resulted in styles
with slivers of space between lens and frame. Prada’s
cat’s-eye styles appear to protect against futuristic
laser beams, and Chanel and Gucci’s colourful lenses
have the hues of a hazy dystopian cityscape, but it’s
not just frames that are getting futuristic. Setting
a clear vision for its retail future, Chanel’s latest service
allows customers to reserve their most sought-after
optical styles online before trying them on in-store.
