Dear Reader,

We live on an assumption that our ‘free will’
directs our future. Some others believe that
‘free will’ is an illusion. But what really is the
Truth? From one perspective, inevitability seems
to be the truth; from another, ‘free will’ is the
truth. Today, scientists and philosophers, alike,
accept that the future is neither predictable nor
predetermined.

You can watch the highlights of a cricket match
with full thrill and enthusiasm and be engaged
in it with the twist and turns, only if you are
unaware of the result. The uncertainty of the
result makes the game interesting. Believing
that ‘free will’ is an illusion makes one less
enthusiastic and driven to act.

If you have read the story of Krishna and the
prophecy, “Kamsa will die at the hands of
Krishna”, you will realize that, Kamsa left no
stone unturned to prove the prophecy wrong.
However, Kamsa’s efforts did not bear fruit.
Although Kamsa exercised his ‘free will’, he
could not alter the prophecy.

Gurudev cites an interesting analogy to describe
destiny and free will. He says, “Your height
is your destiny; your weight is your free will.”
Circumstances are beyond the control of man,
he can express his ‘free will’, can decide, but
he does not have a control on the outcome.

This is the wisdom of the Bhagawad Gita. It is
wisdom that holds the key to happiness.
No wisdom, no happiness. So people
seeking happiness will have to come to
the Guru. They have to acknowledge the Guru
principle in their life. Read our cover story,
‘Guru is present like the space in our life.’ The
capacity to appreciate and to feel grateful is a
gift. This July, as we celebrate Guru Poornima,
let us be grateful for that Guru principle in our
lives.

In this issue, we bring you the highlights of the
recently concluded International Day of Yoga
Celebrations on June 21, 2019. We also bring
you several yoga-related articles to highlight
its relevance and importance. For a yoga
practitioner, he doesn’t need any proof of the
efficacy of the yoga practice on health and
well being, for he, himself, is the experiencer
of that. There is enough subjective evidence
to continue the practice and take it further.
Our knowledge of the month, “The purpose of
Yoga” will give you more insights.

As you read through the magazine, please send
us your valuable comments and feedback.
Happy Guru Poornima to all our readers.
