On 21 June, 2019, millions of Yoga
enthusiasts from world over including Iran,
Japan, Kuwait, UAE, Bahrain, Lebanon,
US, Australia, Argentina, Brazil, Nepal,
New Zealand and other nations joined
in the celebrations of fifth International
Day of Yoga with The Art of Living and its
partner organizations. The participating mix
included Army Jawans, jail inmates, colleges
and schools, home makers and office goers,
farmers among others. Here are some of the
most interesting highlights and numbers:
- 4000 Jawans in Ferozpur Cantonment and
jawans at the Army Brigade headquarters
of Akhnoor, over 300 inmates from
Udhampur and Kot Balwal jails in Jammu
and Kashmir practiced the Common
Yoga Protocol with The Art of Living
instructors. - ITBP personnel performed Yoga on
International Yoga Day at an altitude
of 19000 ft near OP Dorjila in Sikkim at
minus 15 degrees Celsius early in the
morning - The oldest living person in the world also
learned deep breathing pranayama with
senior Art of Living instructor, Swami
Purnachaitanya - In Chandigarh IYD events were organized
at various locations including offices of
Govt Bodies like Registar Of companies,
National Fertilizers Limited, District
Courts, PGI hospital, Schools, CII,
NABARD Haryana, where in all 16000
people participated.
- Apart from the Common Yoga Protocol,
about 9000 Art of Living volunteers
across 20 locations performed the
Warrior I pose (yoga) simultaneously,
holding it for 3 minutes. - Yoga session was led by The Art of Living
at Madras Sappers HQ, Bengaluru
where more than 1200 Army Jawans
participated. - 7000 Participants at Manekshaw Parade
Grounds, Bengaluru - The Indian Navy organized Yoga Camps at
multiple sites including ships at sea. The
Art of Living was invited to conduct Yoga
sessions at two such sites of Western
Naval Command in Mumbai. One was
on board Viraat, the erstwhile Aircraft
Carrier and the other at the Integrated
Mess & Sports Complex (IMSC) of
Western Naval Command. 1000+ officers
and sailors mainly from the Western
Fleet participated in the yoga session
conducted by Art of Living’s faculty Dr
Shilpa Sabharwal and Radhika Koppikar. - 400+ Senior Citizens participated at
Joggers Park, Kalyani Nagar in Pune - The Art of Living took a session for
differently abled in Airoli, Mumbai. - International Yoga Day was observed at
700 Free Schools run by The Art of Living. - The IYD event at Lalbagh, Bengaluru was
organized by Ministry of Tourism with
technical support by The Art of Living.
