THE BIG STORY

Who relents first after a fight?
We don’t fight.

You have been sharing insights into your
shoot of Kabir Khan’s ’83. What should
the audience expect from the film?
It’s an extraordinary story of underdogs who went
on to achieve ultimate glory. It is a cinematic
package; you will see endearment, humour,
emotion, and drama.

Takht is your third period film. What
attracts you towards the genre?
It’s not that period films fascinate me, it’s
interesting characters, stories, and filmmakers
that enrapture me. I’ve only done period films
with Sanjay (Leela) Bhansali so far, any actor
would give an arm and leg to act under his
guidance. To talk of Takht, I have always wanted
to collaborate with Karan Johar, and he offered
me a brilliant part in a ‘killer’ story. It’s unlike
anything I have done before, and I saw the
potential to make something noteworthy out of it.

that it’s expensive and tedious to go to cinema
halls. Hence, if you want movie buffs to come to
theatres to watch your film, it’s important and
your responsibility to offer them a project that has
a certain value, which can only be appreciated on
the big screen. No doubt, at the end of the day, it’s
about entertaining the audience and giving them
an emotional experience.

In an industry where rivalry is common,
you seem to share a good rapport with
most of the actors around. How do you
do it with such ease?
I’m not competitive, but a thrill and joy seeker.
Even if I play a sport, I do so for the love of it.
Winning is not the motive, the process is the
prize. I love films, and want them to do well, and,
in the process, desire that people associated with
them do well. If a film like Baahubali does great
business, my instinct is not jealousy, it’s being
proud. When big ticket films don’t do well, I am
unhappy. I know some people who are happy with
someone’s failure, and that reaction appalls me.
I don’t harbour negativity for anyone.

Tell us an aspect of Deepika Padukone
that few know about.
There is a child-like quality to her that nobody
other than me has the privilege of seeing. It’s
a precious part of my life.

How has your relationship with her
evolved since your wedding?
It has only gotten better. Now, we’re cocooned in
love, and there is no space for doubt or misgiving.
It’s grounded-ness, centred-ness, security,
warmth, and joy. We share experiences and
laugh together. The added security that comes
with marriage has allowed our relationship to
blossom further.

PADUKONE AND SINGH)

COCOONED IN LOVE, AND

THERE IS NO SPACE FOR

DOUBT OR MISGIVING.”
