SNORKELLING IN RAJA AMPAT
One of Indonesia’s best kept secrets is a snorkelling gem

Located off the coast of West Papua, Raja Ampat is the most eastern Indonesian archipelago, comprising
of 1500 islands. It took me 2 days to travel there within the same country! The difficulty of the time and travel
commitment needed to get there keeps it wild. Enriched with its marine biodiversity known as the richest on
the planet, Raja Ampat is every diver’s dream. Duck your head in the water 3 steps from the beach and you’ll
find luscious marine life better than 10 dives done in the Bahamas. I’m a diver and I have logged over 200
dives but when I was in Raja Ampat, I find exploring the ocean’s top few meters so astounding that I spent
most days just snorkelling around the house reef at my homestay. I could step out from my rustic water
bungalow and be mesmerised by every imaginable type of coral and fish. Here I’ve seen the perfect colour
spectrum of the reef. I have also spotted a plethora of tropical fish like angel fish, playful little clown fish,
and even reef sharks and sea snakes, all on top of the colourful corals even Ariel would find impressive!
Famous snorkelling sites in Raja Ampat are namely Batanta and Kri. Batanta’s rich reef and sea grass prairies
incredibly, attract dugongs, while turtles and reef sharks are commonly sighted at Kri.
Raja Ampat isn’t just popular for its astonishing diversity of marine life, you’ll be star-struck by the
world’s scenic point of Piaynemo with a cluster of islands connected by shiny white sandy bars surrounded
by aquamarine waters!
